Mayor Blair Ireland shared his enthusiasm over the opening of the new Lake Country Bike Park, calling it a fantastic addition to the community. “The Lake Country Bike Park is an incredible asset for our area,” Mayor Ireland said. “It offers a safe and inclusive environment for riders of all ages and skill levels, meeting the needs of our large and growing mountain biking community. This park not only enhances recreational opportunities but will also stimulate economic growth, attracting both locals and visitors. It’s another fantastic destination that complements the many other mountain biking options in the Okanagan. We’re proud to support the expansion of mountain biking in our region, and we look forward to the positive impact this park will bring to both our residents and visitors.”

The park is expected to become a popular hub for outdoor enthusiasts, further bolstering Lake Country's reputation as a prime destination for adventure tourism.

Located at 8865 Okanagan Centre Road West spanning 6.0 hectares, the park boasts warm south-west facing slopes and stunning views of Okanagan Lake.

Mountain biking is a fantastic way to stay active and enjoy the outdoors. The growing popularity of bike skills parks reflects the sport's evolution and its appeal to both beginners and seasoned riders. According to Lake Country’s 2023 Sports & Recreation Needs Assessment, a bike skills park was identified as a high-priority outdoor amenity.

The District of Lake Country is home to a vibrant biking community that benefits from the world-class trail networks in the North and Central Okanagan regions. The new bike park will enhance these offerings, providing a safe and central location for riders to develop their skills and confidence. The park's location was chosen in collaboration with the local mountain bike club, and in 2023, the District finalized a comprehensive design, development, and management plan for the facility.

"We’re thrilled to see the District of Lake Country recognize mountain biking as an important part of the community and invest in it. Our members have long expressed how much a park like this would mean—and now it’s a reality,” said Marieke de Jonge, Director of Marketing and Communications, Mountain Bikers of the Central Okanagan (MTBCO). “It’s exciting to see this kind of support at the municipal level, and we hope it inspires further investment in mountain biking across the region. This park not only provides a dedicated space for riders to progress but also helps build confidence and transferable skills that enhance safety and enjoyment in our trail networks."

The project, which cost $500,000, included the design and construction of bike park features, vehicle parking, and signage. Wolsey Construction, in partnership with Contours Trails, a professional trail-building company from the North Okanagan area, led the project.

The Lake Country Bike Park will be open daily from dawn to dusk, offering ample opportunity for everyone to enjoy its features. Please note that the park is unsupervised; use at your own risk. The features in this bike park can be hazardous, and injuries may occur. Know your limits and ride within your ability. Motorized vehicles, such as dirt bikes and Surrons, are strictly prohibited. Dogs are permitted on-leash on multi-use trails but must be kept off bike trails and features for the safety of riders.

Mark your calendar and stay tuned for details about an upcoming event to celebrate the grand opening of the Lake Country Bike Park on Saturday, May 3 (2:00-4:00pm). We look forward to seeing you there!
