On February 27th Council spent two hours reviewing and giving in-depth consideration to the five-year financial plan that includes the 2024 budget. After several discussions leading up to the Special Council meeting, Council gave second and third reading to a 9.52% property tax increase in 2024. Council agreed that the increase is necessary to maintain current service levels throughout the District. These services include supporting community safety and keeping up with rising costs of delivering services. Long-term infrastructure planning and asset management were also included along with necessary wage increases required for the District to remain competitive and retain skilled staff.
The 9.52% property tax increase represents an approximate increase of $248.00 to the average single-family home which is currently assessed at $1,086,000 in Lake Country.
Since first reading of the budget on December 19th, 2023 Council hosted a town hall which consisted of community members participating in person and through Facebook Live. Council also received and considered over 60 questions and comments that were submitted by community members through Let’s Talk – Lake Country, email and discussions with community members.
