Anyone that loves experiencing the power of soulful music delivered live on stage by a dynamic vocalist won’t want to miss Dawn Pemberton’s performance at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country Saturday, January 25th.
Fresh off her holiday show “O Come All Ye Soulful” with performances on Vancouver Island and Whistler in December, followed by her Get Lifted: Gospel and Soul singing workshops in Haida Gwaii, Pemberton brings her passion for the stage to perform live for an intimate audience at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country in late January.
With a big voice and irresistible verve, Dawn Pemberton looks forward to sharing her genuine love of soulful music with concert-goers in the Okanagan. Being drawn to the percolating undercurrent of soul, jazz and funk, Pemberton says: “I’ve got a rhythmic stream running through me at all times. It’s all about the groove for me.”
The Okanagan Youth Choir, led by music teacher, Taylor Bone, from HS Grenda Middle School will be joining Pemberton on stage during the evening. “I really believe in Taylor's vision to create a choral community and culture in Lake Country,” said Dawn Pemberton. “She's a really amazing educator and believes that choirs are an integral part of any community not only because they teach people how to work together for a common goal, but they also foster safe spaces for inclusion, build strong leaders and citizens.”
Pemberton is a recipient of the 2024 Canada Council for the Arts and Creative BC grants, and a multiple Juno nominee. As a staple of the Vancouver music scene, Dawn Pemberton can often be found tearin’ it up as a vocalist, teacher, facilitator, adjudicator and even choir director for live performances and studio sessions. As a passionate educator and performer, she teaches workshops and master classes all over Canada. Pemberton enjoys developing fun, inspiring and educational musical experiences for people of all ages.
Her retro soul-funk tunes were expertly captured on her debut album Say Somethin’ in 2014. “Say Somethin’ is contemporary soul with a jazzy edge served up with a breezy vocal delivery from Pemberton,” wrote Ride The Tempo. Say Somethin’ won Best Urban Recording at the Western Canadian Music Awards, solidifying her as Canada’s “queen of soul.”
