Lake Country Municipal Hall will be closed for the holidays from 3:00pm Tuesday, December 24 through Wednesday, January 1, reopening at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2

Essential services will remain in operation throughout the holidays.

Emergency contacts:

  • Water & Sewer: 250-317-3250
  • Roads maintenance contractor: 250-766-5664
  • Roads duty cell (non-snow removal related issues): 250-317-9780
  • Hwy 97 provincial contractor AIM Roads Inc. 1-866-222-4204

Reducing operational hours during low service periods is economical for the District.  Staff use vacation days or earned leave banks for closure days beyond statutory holidays.

Slow down and drive for the changing weather conditions

District crews and contractor clear roads and sidewalks in Lake Country. During and after the snow falls, we’ll be hard at work moving the snow from roads with plows and trucks, and we ask that vehicles be parked off the road to help us effectively plow the roads as quickly as possible. We are committed to maintaining roads in passable condition and prioritize routes. More info: www.lakecountry.bc.ca/snow

You are responsible for clearing your driveway access – push snow onto your property on the right side of your driveway as you face the road.

We all have a part to play in safely moving around the community during changing weather and road conditions.

Winter Fire Safety/Holiday Entertaining Tips

Lake Country Fire Department reminds residents to:

  • Test your smoke alarms and tell guests about your home fire escape plan.
  • Close the bedroom door when you go to bed (this creates a survivable space during a fire).
  • Keep children, pets, and combustible decorations away from lit candles.
  • Never overload electrical outlets – plugging too many devices into a single outlet can increase the risk of fire.
  • Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop.
  • Never use your oven to heat your home.
  • Blow out lit candles when you leave the room or go to bed.
  • Turn off all light strings and decorations before leaving home or going to bed.

Garbage and Recycling Information

Garbage, recycling and yard waste will not be collected on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, or New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1.  During these two weeks only, residents who normally have collection on Wednesday should put their carts at the curb for collection on Thursday instead.

For missed pick-ups or damaged carts, please call Environmental 360 Solutions (e360s) at 250.868.3211.

Remember to put all wrapping paper (except foil wrap), flattened boxes and cartons into your recycling cart for curbside pick-up or take to your nearest recycling depot. Keep the recycling spirit going by saving all shiny and foil wrapping paper and cards, ribbons and bows for re-use.

Don’t get stuck on the naughty list, make sure the following items stay out of your recycling cart.

  • Ribbons & Bows
  • Foil Gift Wrap
  • Padded Envelopes
  • Toys
  • Lights
  • Batteries
  • Plastic bags
  • Glass

When you take down your natural Christmas tree after the holidays, dispose of it in an eco-friendly way and have it chipped. Give your tree another life by dropping it off at Jack Seaton Park to be chipped and composted into a nutrient-rich compost. Make sure to remove all decorations and tinsel before recycling your tree, plus any plastic bags or other materials used for transporting - all of these interfere with the composting process.

Drop-off your Christmas tree in the designated area of the parking lot at Jack Seaton Park (1950 Camp Rd.) from December 26 to January 31.

Trees can also be cut into pieces and placed in your yard waste cart for pick up once yard waste collection resumes on March 1, 2025. Keep in mind prunings and branches must not be longer than 5cm (2in) in diameter and less than 1 metre (3ft) long.
