Lake Country, BC – The District of Lake Country Recreation Services and Cultural Development team is collaborating on fun family events for the four Sundays in February, plus one Sunday in January.
“The concept is to have $2.00/person open gym activity time from 9:30am-11:30am for young children (infants to 12yrs) followed by a $2.00/person movie at 12:00 noon in Creekside Theatre aimed at the younger family audiences,” said Cultural Development Coordinator Ryan Donn. “Then the 13-16 year old set would have $2.00/person basketball open gym time from 11:30am-1:30pm, followed by a $2.00/person movie matinee at 2:00 p.m. aimed at the teens and adult audiences with PG 14 or R rated movies aired. The toonie admission price helps us cover the cost of the movie fees.”
The open gym time includes games of basketball, floor hockey, soccer, and volleyball. “We want to provide youth a safe and convenient space to stay active, build skills, and connect with their community – an invaluable opportunity for growth and development,” said Recreation Coordinator Melissa Sbrega. “Having the gym available to all ages at the $2.00 price point contributes to making an active lifestyle accessible to many families in the community looking for something fun to do during the winter months without any economic hardship.”
The movies have been booked and are listed below, but the community is invited to vote on the one they want to see in the 12:00pm timeslot on February 23. The choices are Happy Feet, or Lego, or Lego Batman, or Simpsons movie. Email theatre@lakecountry.bc.ca to cast your vote and let us know what you want to see that day. The movie with the largest number of votes will be booked for that Sunday and announced on the creeksidetheatre.com website; and lakecountry.bc.ca community events calendar.
